One of my first group projects in the Digital Marketing course was to compare and contrast tools, show how they are used in designing a product or a service, and link technologies that complement each tool. We accomplished this through a presentation showcasing our process of creating Santabucks, a holiday gift-giving service that delivers Starbucks products to receivers’ homes.
The inspiration came from us missing home during the festive times of Christmas, as our group consisted of all international students longing to connect with family and friends. Gift-giving might be, if not is, the most important part of Christmas. The feeling of waking up as a kid on Christmas day, so excited to open the presents under the Christmas tree, is something we could not forget. So we designed Santabucks in hopes of giving those away from home an easy and affordable option to gift their family and friends, sharing the feeling we got as kids with more people all over the world.
My part in the presentation was to explain how system mapping can be used in our project. System mapping is a tool for making predictions and exploring potential benefits and drawbacks in a complex system through depicting relationships and feedback loops, actors and trends. I used an ecosystem map to demonstrate the relationship between the different actors and components that contribute to creating a customer experience.
By using system mapping, people can fully understand the whole purchasing process from placing the order to receiving products, including different elements such as shipping or packaging. Also, system mapping can apply to social media, connecting with target audiences, platforms and products.
To sum up, this team project increases my ability to communicate and integrate digital marketing.
